Poor villages in Henan use three windmills to pump water over a mountain to provide clean water for domestic, agricultural and livestock use.

This is located in the rugged mountains in Northern Henan province in Central China. This specific region has 4 administrative villages with a total of 20 natural villages. These are small villages and are scattered throughout the mountains. The resident population is 4000 people living halfway up the mountainsides. This is a distressed area and a region troubled with drought. Due to serious regional impoverishment, the villagers cannot afford the expense of electricity for pumping water, hence they travel an average of 6 miles on foot every day to haul water by hand using buckets, some 760,000 cubic meters every year! In order to solve the drinking water problem of 4000 people and 1000 domestic animals, the regional Poverty Relief Office and Iron Man Windmill Co. LTD installed three non-electric water pumping windmills in January, 2005.

Three levels of pumping elevation are required. The windmills use a 6M diameter wind wheels, each with 18 sails. The tower height is 16 meters; the 3 windmills pump water to more than 450 meters in elevation. The 1st windmill is installed 150 meters from the water source where there is more wind. A remote transmission is used to operate the pump and we use the driving device to transfer the power to the pump. This system is the first of its type and has been providing dependable service for the past three years.

This project not only solved the problem of providing an impoverished village with an adequate supply of water, but proved the ability of the large Iron Man Windmills to solve the drinking water problem and confirm that wind powered water pumping windmills are completely suitable for providing badly needed water, while protecting the environment, conserving energy, reducing costs and providing an efficient solution. Additional projects are underway using more windmills to solve the regional drinking water problem.
