This village is located in the hilly region of Hubei, with a population of 500. It has 100 acre dry land and 550 acre paddy field. The average income of the villagers is only 3000 RMB per year. The former water source is a reservoir 100km away. Because of the distance, much water was lost due to leaks and evaporation. The people here only received a very limited amount of water. It was also difficult to store water due to a lack of a modern storage facility. Villagers also fetch water from a small pond nearby that is frequently shared with water buffaloes. The amount of water is very small and the quality is bad. Water is the bottleneck restricting local economic development.
In order to resolve the water problem for the local people, a 6 meter windmill was installed in January of 2008. The project was under The Foreign Affair Office of Wuhan City Hubei Province, Jiangxia District Government of Wuhan City. The China Windmill Foundation's sponsor, Neo Derm (HK) Limited and Ironman Windmill Co., Ltd contributed to the donation. Before the installation of the windmill, a new water tower with a capacity of 25 tons and a water distribution system were built. The tower of the windmill is 16 meter. The number of sails is 18 and the diameter is 6 meters. It pumps from a new well that is 2 meters in diameter and 17 meters deep. The total pumping elevation is 36 meter.
The “Healthy Drinking Water” Project solved the local people's chronic drinking water and irrigation problems, making a significant contribution to improving the villagers’ quality of life.
